Robert Nissenbaum, President and CEO of Imagine Foods began his career in the all-natural health food industry in 1971. He opened one of the original natural/ organic food stores in the US and he helped to organize the opening of the Sunshine Inn, one of the earliest and longest lasting natural food restaurants in the US. It was at the Sunshine Inn that Nissenbaum first began experimenting with "alternative dairy beverages" and frozen desserts.
In 1984 Robert and his partner took some these alternative dairy products to a natural food trade show. Distributors from all over the US were immediately interested in one particular product: the Rice Dream Frozen dessert. Unsure of weather or not they could meet this unexpected high demand for their product they decided to move to Northern California where they could be closer to the source of their main ingredient, brown rice.
Today, Imagine Foods makes some of the best selling organic and natural products available. Their product line includes soymilk, a variety of different flavors of rice milk and a delicious line of all-natural soups and broth. They continue to be a privately owned company with a staff of 60 employees and they are one of the largest procurers of Californian brown rice.
