MAKE THE SAUCE
In a small saucepan, add the can of tomatoes, olive oil, crushed garlic, salt, pepper, basil stems (and optional crushed chillies and onion powder). Simmer on the stove until reduced by 1/3, about 15 minutes. You should end up with about 1 cup sauce. Once the sauce is cooked, carefully remove the basil stems. Chop or tear the basil leaves.
