Organic Cantaloupe

Cantaloupes are a type of muskmelon. These have ribbed sections, and a gray/beige colour skin with orange flesh.

Cantaloupe is loaded with cancer preventing antioxidants like Vitamin C and Beta Carotene.

Store Cantaloupe outside of the fridge if you would like it to ripen more, and put it in the fridge once it is ripe or if you wish to serve it cold.

Storage Tip: Melons (except watermelons) benefit from a day's storage at room temperature to soften (not ripen) the flesh. Once cut , wrap tightly in plastic.

Preparation Tip: Simply cut, scoop out the seeds and serve.

Culinary Compatibility: Try watermelon wrapped in smoked chicken or turkey, or honeydew wrapped in smoked salmon. Try melon salsa with coriander chili peppers and lemon juice. Great in salads or blended in frozen drinks. Cantaloupe wrapped in prosciutto is a popular appetizer.

Health Information: Melons are 90% water, so they are low in calories. Cantaloupes have the most nutritional value of melons, and are an excellent source of beta carotene and vitamin C as well as potassium, folate, magnesium fibre and B6. Honeydew is high in Vitamin C and a source of potassium, thiamin and vitamin C. Watermelon is a source of vitamin C, potassium, thiamin and vitamin B6.
