Two European gentlemen, one from Holland, the other from Italy, longed for the breads that they had enjoyed since childhood in Europe. They began sharing their ideas and by the spring of 2001, Portofino Bakery was created.
Based on the traditional European methods of baking, Portofino Bakery uses steam ovens. This process, combined with the selection of premium ingredients, gives their baked goods a unique taste, flavour and texture. Portofino Bakery breads are hand made and baked fresh daily. These baked goods have a distinctive European taste, not found in most Canadian bakeries. Portofino Bakery takes pride in using no artificial flavours, preservatives or colours in any of their baked goods and the majority of them are fat-free. Their breads have a great shelf life and freeze beautifully.
