Made from Canadian grown unhulled Organic Buckwheat kernels.
Buckwheat is one of the best sources of high-quality, easily digestible proteins. It is also a good source of Rutin, a flavonoid with various biological and physiological activities including antioxidation, anti-inflammation and anti-hypertension. Research done by the Department of Agriculture states that analyses indicate Buckwheat has an amino acid composition nutritionally superior to all cereals, including oats. It has a high content of lysine, a protein our bodies need and can’t make which is not as prevalent in most other grains. An excellent source of complex carbohydrates, our Organic Buckwheat Flour is high in dietary fiber (it’s whole grain) – important for promoting a healthy digestive system, aiding in weight management and reducing blood sugar and blood cholesterol levels, according to the Mayo Clinic. It is rich in essential vitamins and minerals like zinc and copper. If you want to add a nutrient boost to your diet – our Organic Buckwheat Flour will do it.

Buckwheat itself is gluten free, however the Nunweiler's milling facility, is not. They purge their milling system between the production of any different flours, but because they are unable to completely 100% flush their system, the Organic Whole Grain Buckwheat Flour may have up to 60ppm of gluten in the flour. While this is a minuscule amount, it is important for those with Celiac Disease to be aware of this.

The Nunweiler family started farming in Saskatchewan in 1910. At that time most people knew where their food came from, and they often knew who grew it. Four generations later, the Nunweiler family is still running their family farm with the same philosophy they have had all along. They are committed to using only safe, natural ingredients and ecologically sound packaging, a task that is more challenging in than it sounds, especially in today's complicated world.

Up until 1987, the Nunweiler farm was a basic farming operation that produced mainly red spring wheat. In 1988, they began milling their own flour, after becoming discouraged by modern milling practices. They use a unique process called "impact milling" which produces a whole grain flour with out preservatives, conditioners or chemical agents. The flour is fresh and minimally processed which makes it superior baking flour. This is the flour used in Grandma Nunweiler's Pancake mix.

Working on a farm, breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast has to be substantial and nutritious. Grandma Nunweiler's whole grain pancakes are exactly that. These are pancakes made the "old-fashioned" way starting with whole-grain flour. There are no preservatives or artificial ingredients added which are often included in conventional pancake mixes. They use only non-aluminum baking powder and sea salt in the mix.
