Organic Oranges, Satsuma

The Satsuma peels and segments easily. The exterior will display a light orange color and perhaps a tinge of green, but the interior will be a bright orange. There are some 100 varieties of satsumas in Japan, about a dozen of which have been released in the United States.

Storage Tip: Although you can store oranges at room temperature, they will last longer in the fridge in a plastic bag.

Did you know... Oranges are the third most popular fruit after bananas and apples. Warm oranges produce more juice than cold oranges.

Culinary Compatibility: Oranges are a great addition to almost any smoothies. Orange juice is great for fish marinades. Orange zest are the secret ingredient in many of the best tasting cookies, muffins, sweet breads, and cakes. Oranges go surprisingly well with carrots, turnips and squash.

Health Information: Oranges are a good source of fibre and folate and an excellent source of vitamin C. Oranges are high in antioxidants, which helps prevent cancer (especially stomach cancer). Oranges have pectin and terpenes (a phytochemical), which reduces cholesterol.
