Arugula is a super hardy culinary green with mildly spicy oak-shaped leaves. It grows will in part shade as well as full sun, and will tolerate just about any soil condition or drought. Arugula likes cool weather and grows faster than lettuce. Sow shallowly 6 mm (1/4 in) deep anytime in spring, and sow again in early August for a fall harvest. Eventually thin plants to 30 cm (12in) apart. The white flowers are edible and are beloved of pollinators, especially in the fall when there are preciously few flowers around.
