This mix of Brassica olecracea acephala and Brassica napus pabularia. Sow any time in spring, 1 cm (3/8 in) deep, with rows 60 cm (2 ft) apart. Eat the thinnings until the kale is 30 - 40 cm (12-16 in) apart. Full sun, but can tolerate part shade. Kale is hardy to around -7 Celsius, and sweeter after the first frost, but will not overwinter outside in Norse climates. 'Cut and come again' - harvest a few leaves at a time, saving some for the next time. Kale is a staple ingredient in green smoothies and can be frozen or dehydrated to cope with the fall abundance.
