Chosen Foods story begins with Chief Executive Officer, Carsten Hagen. Since early on, Carsten, a native of Norway had a strong interest in natural & healing foods. When living in Canada in the late 1960's he set out to further this interest by becoming a Naturopathic Doctor. With no official ND schools in Canada at that time, he enrolled in a four-year correspondence course with a specialized US university to get his ND degree. Although never practicing as a ND, this educational background became the foundation for his passionate business interest in the food & health industry, a field he's been connected with for more than 45 years.

After living and working in Mexico for many years, Carsten founded Chosen Foods Corporation. Drawing from scientific experts and local legend, Carsten discovered Mexico’s rich heritage of exceptionally healing foods like chia seeds and nopal cactus. It is his vision to see these and other unique ancient superfoods offered to the world. A common thread in Chosen Foods culture lies in the foundational belief that food has the power to heal. This belief has led us on an invigorating search not just in Mexico, but around the globe, to bring these healing superfood ingredients to you.

In 2011, Chosen Foods de Mexico S.A de C.V was incorporated to facilitate close cooperation with local farmers, conduct research and directly manage quality control for year round supply. Today, the Chosen Foods group is a fully integrated operation with offices in Mexico, USA, Canada and Bolivia. Each stage in the life of our superfoods is carefully overseen by us, from seeding, to harvesting, to cleaning and processing. This gives us complete control over supply, quality, sustainability and trade practices. Beautiful San Diego, USA is home to our 8000 sq. ft. headquarters where we house shipping, receiving, and corporate offices. The Chosen Foods brand is sold and distributed both domestically and internationally.
