Woolwich Dairy Inc.
Orangeville, ON
Established in 1983, Woolwich Dairy Inc. prides itself on its rich tradition of creating only the finest award-winning goat cheese.
Family owned and operated, Woolwich Dairy’s passion for creating artisan cheese through time-honored traditional cheese making methods has contributed to its success.
The company’s owners and founders, Tony and Olga Dutra, along with Adozinda Dutra fuelled this company’s early success based on sheer determination for creating only the highest quality goat cheese.
Upon entering the foyer of the Woolwich Dairy, one finds it hard to imagine the humble beginnings of this goat cheese industry giant. This is a story that stems back to Europe when Tony’s mother, Adozinda, supplied goat cheese to her village in Portugal.
When the family later immigrated to Ontario, Canada, Tony’s mother purchased a small goat farm. Recalling her fond memories of creating goat cheese Adozinda again began making her delicious cheese and giving it to friends and family. With an absence of a quality goat cheese products on the market, Tony’s wife, Olga, suggested they package the family recipe and sell it to the public. Tony and Olga both left their full time jobs in 1986 to take on this new venture calling their business Nova Cheese Inc.
Demonstrating remarkable ambition and an entrepreneurial spirit the trio set out to conquer the goat cheese industry. In 1989, the previous owners of Woolwich Dairy approached the Dutras with the intent of selling the business and retiring. The Dutras jumped at the opportunity to expand and produce a product line with an established reputation such as the Chevrai brand of goat cheese – their number one seller.
After years of success Woolwich Dairy has established many exciting and successful new brands including: Chevrai, Goat Brie, Cheddar, Feta and Mozzarella.
