Storage Tip:
Take off any bands holding it together, store in perforated bags in the crisper. Greens last longer wrapped in paper towels or a clean linen cloth in a perforated bag.
Preparation Tip: Wash and dry carefully, and don't tear, rip or cut up lettuce until just before serving to avoid losing nutrients and freshness.
Did you know... Lettuce can be cooked, especially romaine. It can be sautéed, braised, steamed or broiled.
Culinary Compatibility: Sesame seeds, roasted peppers, goat cheese, fresh herbs, various vinaigrettes and dressings: balsamic, lemon-Mayo, wine, or buttermilk dressing.
Health Information: Excellent source of folate and vitamins A, and C. Also contains calcium, iron potassium, and magnesium. Folate and iron help prevent and treat anemia, and folate is linked with good heart health and prevention of birth defects, and antioxidants are associated with lower rates of cancer, heart disease and cataracts.
