Named for its resemblance to a pine cone. Hawaii, this fruits leading producer, didn't see its first pineapple until the late 1700s. All varieties have bumpy, diamond patterned skins. Slight flavor variations depending on variety, but all are juicy and sweet. Use in fresh fruit desserts and salads. Washed and ready to eat.
