Grandma's Dhal

  • 1 Tbsp Coconut Oil
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • 2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamon
  • 1/2 tsp finely grated ginger
  • 2 Tbsp cilantro, chopper
  • 1 cup red lentils
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, half-ring slices
  • ½ tsp ground cumin

1)Thoroughly wash and drain lentils.
2)Combine water, lentils, salt, turmeric and cayenne in a saucepan and bring to boil.
3)Simmer until lentils are soft (40 min).
4)In a pan heat oil, add ginger, garlic and onion. Stir until golden (4 min).
5)Add pepper cumin and cardamon, continue cooking for 2 min.
6)Combine oil and spices into lentils and mix well.
7)Add lemon juice and cilantro to taste immediately before serving.
