Apple Pear Pie Filling & Cake Topping

Ingredients:
- 3 medium apples, peeled and sliced in bite-sized pieces
- 3 medium pears, peeled and sliced in bite-sized pieces
- 4 Tbsps butter
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 4 Tbsps water, divided in half
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp ground cloves
- 1 Tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:
In a good sized saucepan, melt butter at medium heat (or just below). Sautee apples and pears for 3 minutes, stirring often.
Add lemon juice and 2 tbsp water. Stir in, then add brown sugar and spices. Cook for about 5 minutes, until fruit is tender.
In a small bowl, combine cornstarch and remaining water. Stir into saucepan, bring to a boil, let bubble for 30 seconds while stirring constantly, then remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and let cool.
Serve over cake, waffles, ice cream (or any combination of those) - or put into a par-baked pie crust and finish off.
