The birds are free range and are grown for 8-9 weeks before processing. This is longer than conventional birds (usually 5.5 weeks) because they are not force fed, or given growth hormones. They also have more room to move around, thus burning more fat. Don't be fooled by "free run" chickens; all broiler chickens are free run in that they are not in cages in the barn. To transport the birds, special drawers with half the usual number of birds are used. The processing plant is inspected by BCARA and all the birds are killed by hand, not machine.
