The Satsuma peels and segments easily, with a characteristiclly loose and often bumpy or wrinkled skin. These easy to eat satsumas will have a rich orange colour throughout. There are some 100 varieties of satsumas in Japan, about a dozen of which have been released in the United States. Satsumas are typically available during the fall and winter months. Satsuma's can typically be pretty soft to the touch, but are packed with flavour.
